The company’s flagship solution is the Tunnel Lighting Addressable Control System (TLACS).

Aesthetics, design, flair, anchored in his community, these are words easily associated with Jean-Claude Calabro, President of LumiGroup, a manufacturer's agent for lighting and control products. His business model is that of a contractor — one who has evidently done well since LumiGroup is on an exclusive list of Canadian companies experiencing the most growth over the past five years.

Jason Prevost is National Chair of Electro-Federation Canada (EFC)’s Young Professionals Network. He is also VP of Marketing at Standard Products. Married and a father of two young teens and very involved with Habitat for Humanity, he gathers, grows and gives.

François Anquetil? You’ll never get him to sit down for an interview, people told me. He’s too busy. However, this conversation between two francophones feels like an informal chat over a glass of wine. François Anquetil, President of Sonepar Canada and Chair of Electro-Federation Canada’s Board of Directors, is engaging, and happy to share his vision of the industry.

EDP, a lighting manufacturing agent, stands out as a leader in a changing industry. The company serves Montreal and the surrounding area, and works in the commercial, architectural, institutional, industrial, urban and corporate areas.

Specializing in outdoor solar light, DX3 provides “light anywhere, anytime.” All of the firm’s products can be installed without any utility grid connections, and it provides solutions for commercial and municipal users where existing lighting poles and infrastructure are not in place.

Flextherm, a company in Montreal’s southern reaches that specializing in the design, manufacture and marketing of floor heating systems, came into being 25 years ago. A celebration last summer captures the expectations and ambitions of the founder and president, Philippe Charron. The event brought together customers, distributors and employees.

McCoy Samuels was recently named the 2016 Recipient of the RAB Design Lighting Award of Excellence — a scholarship awarded to a student who demonstrates academic excellence and a passion for the electrical industry.

Keith Sones, President of Allteck for the past several years and now an executive with the Valard Group of Companies, is an incredible story teller. You will read his stories in EIN on a regular basis starting next month. He will talk to you about safety management, business development in our industry, relationships with your customers, aboriginal advancement, operational leadership and much more because he knows a lot about those subjects.

WestburneMany contractors prefer to deal with the people that they know, in their local branch. When doing a job out of town, it’s often inconvenient or simply impossible to return to your home branch to pick up material orders for the next day, within standard business hours.

Westburne’s new locker solution extends the branch’s pick up times to 24 hours, 7 days a week.

Student workers may make up a relatively small portion of the sector workforce, but their impact is substantial. EHRC’s Empowering Futures wage subsidy program has placed 510 students, contributing $14.8 million to the Canadian economy (and counting). That’s no small figure, especially considering that many placements are only a few months long.

In challenging economic times, the tendency might be to pull back on initiatives not deemed essential to operating — why take a chance on an inexperienced employee for only a short time when resources are already stretched?
